Love Sick Season 2 Episode 8

Noh is in bed next to Phun. While Noh wants to get up, Phun wants to sleep. Noh is hungry. This is a constant in the novel too. Noh is all about food. Phun gives Noh a “morning kiss” in Noh’s nose before brushing his teeth. Noh is disgusted. At breakfast, Yuri tries to find out details about what Noh likes for breakfast. Later Yuri tries to find an excuse to be alone with Phun (we will find later why).

In a flashback, we find that apparently Aim told Yuri that she is cheating on Phun because some guy keeps asking her out. She thinks Phun might get jealous. Yuri decides to ask Phun. (Ask what?)

Yuri and Phun are out shopping. Yuri mentions to Phun that Aim is so pretty, there are probably so many guys interested in her, yet she “chose” to be with him. She tells him, no matter what, don’t ever leave her. Really? Ugh. Some days, I don’t like Yuri. Today is one of those days.

Back at the hotel, Yuri and Noh are alone in the room. Captain looks so freaking cute in this scene. He is just sitting there watching cartoons at the hotel room with Aim, laughing and smiling. (I think Noh likes to watch cartoons, and this was established in Season 1). Aim fakes a call about a clip involving Moan. She lets Noh overhear her call and then asks him what he would do if he found out a friend’s girlfriend had a sex-tape. At first, Noh says he wouldn’t tell his friend, but pressed by Aim, he tells her that he would tell him if his friend’s girlfriend was a terrible person. OMG! Touché! Point for Noh!

At the shopping center, Phun asks Yuri what she likes about Noh. She says, he is cute, his skin in the morning is so “light”, has no hair in his body, and has very red lips. Phun smiles. Oh, Phun, you like hairless Noh and those kissable red lips. LOL. He replies to her, what about her personality? She replies that she likes that he is funny and has never lied to her. She adds, “He is a gentlemen and respects me”. Yes Yuri, he doesn’t lie to you, he just conveniently avoids telling you the truth. At least, that’s what I think Phun is thinking. Phun looks for somewhere to bury his head.

Aim appears to hit on Noh. For some reason, this scene makes me uncomfortable. I mean this is on another level of weird: your secret boyfriend’s current girlfriend is hitting on you; You know he had sex with her and you know you had sex with him. To make matters worst, the actress who plays Aim, Primrose, is actually Captain’s (Noh) cousin. Ewww. That makes it twice as weird.

Noh asks Aim if she wants to go for a walk on the beach (What are you going to do Noh? Throw her out the pier?). Aim tries to kiss Noh and tells him she wants Noh. Noh leaves. Aim is frustrated. She goes to look at her phone, which she had placed strategically on a corner hidden from view but learns it did not record anything. Good! I didn’t need that kind of drama and heartache in the life of my two love birds!

Noh goes back to his room and calls Golf, who is conveniently laying bare chested on his bed. It is a wonderful visual. Golf tells Noh that maybe Aim is trying to blackmail him. As Noh is telling Golf that he feels bad for Phun and she can’t stand Aim, Phun walks in. Ok, I guess there will be drama between the two lovebirds after all. :O

Yuri tells Aim that Phun loves her very much and he will always forgive her, no matter what. Aim tells her that love can’t forgive everything, and that Yuri needs to stop being such a sunshine because people are just going to take her for being naïve.

The gang leaves the hotel. The drive back to the house is awkward. After they drop the girls off, Noh apologizes to Phun for what he said about Aim. Phun tells Noh that Yuri loves him very much and then asks him how he would feel if he started talking crap about Yuri. Noh apologizes again and tells Phun that he is the only person he thinks about. [FUJOSHI SCREAM!] Phun stays silent, but after Noh gets out of the car, Phun smiles. [ANOTHER FUJOSHI SCREAM!]

The Lesser stories…

EarnPete

Earn practices talking to Noh. Beautiful Pete shows up at Earn’s room and overhears Earn’s imaginary conversation. Is Pete jealous here? (Seriously though, August is so beautiful. He is one of the prettiest faces among the cast, which is saying a lot considering this series had so many supporting actors and extras).

Earn explains to Pete how he feels about Noh without saying his name. He mentions how a person can feel their heart beating hard when they are around someone they like. After seeing some pictures in the computer of Pete looking at him at the football match, Pete thinks Earn may be talking about him. Because of this, Pete develops a sudden case of Earn-phobia and doesn’t want Earn to get close to him. Pete runs to the bathroom and locks himself up while he practices how to tell Earn that he only wants them to be friends and nothing more.

The scene that follows is hilarious. It is one of those scenes that, even after watching all 36 episodes of this season, you will remember. Pete finally comes out of the closet, I mean bathroom. Earn seems to suspect something and he confronts Pete about it. Pete freaks out. He doesn’t want Earn to get too close to him. Pressed by Earn, Pete lets it slip out, “Why does it have to be today? I am not ready yet!”. [INTERNAL FUJOSHI SCREAM]. Earn tries to get on top of him. Pete runs outside and suddenly he can hear his heart beating hard. [ANOTHER FUJOSHI SCREAM]. Earn comes outside and grabs him caveman- style and throws him in the bed. [OH DEAR, FUJOSHI HEART ATTACK?].

Earn tells Pete that he needs to have a heart to heart with him. As he is about to ask him a question, Pete blurts out, “I like guys, not girls”. [FUJOSHI FAINT]. He tries to correct himself, but ends up blurting out, “I think of you more than just friends”. Finally, he “corrects” himself again and tells Earn, “I don’t like you”. Earn then tells him, “I don’t like you either” [SAD FUJOSHI].

Pete asks Earn, if it wasn’t for me, who were you practicing for then? Earn refuses to tell him.

Eventually, Pete apologizes to Earn for his earlier behavior. All is forgiven.

OmMick

Om meets up with Mick for a music lesson. Mick says he likes Om because he is the only one who talks to him straight, while everyone else treats him like the little cuddle bear that he is. (Side note: Min is the cutest thing ever. Do you know that he now has a YouTube channel and is a singer?).

Mick is terrible at playing the baritone horn (At least, I think that is what that thing is). He is so bad, but he is so cute. Om is pissed. Mick is so fragile. I expect him to either throw up, or pass out.

Oops, I was wrong. He ended up crying. Om now feels bad. (I like Mick’s cat shirt. LOL.). Om apologizes and all is forgiven.

Episode ending quote: “Those that admit their mistake deserve our forgiveness.”

Analysis

Noh and Yuri seem to be concerned about whether Phun will forgive Aim. Neither Phun, nor Noh has considered if Aim will forgive Phun. In fact, not even once, did the novel itself addressed the question of whether what Phun has done is OK or not OK. Remember, at this point Phun has slept with Noh MULTIPLE times. In fact, at the beginning of this very episode, when Noh and Phun are lying in bed next to each other, the implication is that they had sex. While the novel doesn’t explicitly say it, the fact they kissed the night before and the fact that in the novel Phun tells Noh he can’t stop himself, heavily imply they had sex. So, Phun is having sex with Noh and also with Aim, yet since he is a boy, his promiscuity does not make him an evil character. Aim on the other hand is a promiscuous young woman, and therefore she is portrayed as evil. Sexism and double standards are alive and well in Thailand. In fact, double standards seem to be the norm in Thai BL.

As I said in the synopsis, the scene in which Aim hits on Noh is disturbing in so many levels. First, Noh is Phun’s secret boyfriend, while Aim is Phun’s actual girlfriend. Second, Noh has been intimate with Phun and Aim and Phun have been intimate, making Aim and Noh “eskimo siblings”. Adding a third level of awkwardness is the fact that in real life Primrose and Captain are cousins. This is why I never liked this scene.

The “morning kiss” scene was iconic. Phun giving Noh that quick peck on the nose makes me think that Love Sick decided to put its foot down early in Season 2 and establish that they would show affection, even if they couldn’t show mouth-on-mouth kisses. I also love how Phun smiles before Noh gets out of the car, signaling to us the audience that Phun forgives Noh for trashtalking his girlfriend. Of course, he has to! It is Noh after all, and Phun loves Noh. Noh also confesses, just before getting out of the car, that Phun is the only thing in his mind. I think this is the first time in the series Noh says something of this magnitude.

Speaking of love confessions and iconic scenes, this episode has one of the most memorable EarnPete scenes: the almost love confession from Pete. While Pete getting all nervous around Earn is really funny, Pete blurting out his feelings for Earn is both hilarious and adorable. I remember watching this the first time around and laughing really hard. This scene just works well. It is a comedy of errors and misunderstandings. Pete saying, he doesn’t like girls is worth emphasizing. Up until this point, no character in the series has come out as being actually gay. Of course, this entire scene is ambiguous, and we never know for sure if Pete really doesn’t like girls or if he was just nervous and got confused. As a fan watching this for the first time, your best hope is that he didn’t and that he eventually will confess (again?).

There is not much to say about Om and Mick. Om has a soft spot for Mick. Mick seems to like Om because Om gives him tought love. There is not much more to the story at this point other than that. By the way, I romanize this character’s name as Om, but you may see it romanized as Ohm also. I am pretty sure the character’s name is โอม, which is the same as Ohm (as in Ohm Pawat). I use Om here because: 1) The original Kuda Lakorn sub and novel translation uses Om. 3) The H serves no purpose really. There is no actual “H” in โอม. So Om and Ohm are really the same thing.

I should add that the actor who plays Om is Na Napian and he just recently (2023) re-emerged in the acting world in a new BL series called Cafe in Love. I hope this means he is back in BL. I really like Na. He is a really nice and sweet guy. I have not watched Cafe in Love, as it has not been made available to international audiences outside Thailand. Boo, Channel 3. Boo!

The ending quote, “those that admit their mistake deserve our forgiveness”, makes it easy to understand the key plot element that ties all these stories together: forgiveness. Noh apologizes to Phun and Phun forgives him (but Noh doesn’t really know it). Pete apologizes to Earn, and Earn forgives him. Om apologizes to Mick and Mick forgives him too. Did Aim admit her mistake? No. She didn’t. This is a hint or foreshadowing, and the producers are telling us in advance that Phun will not forgive Aim. Will Aim forgive Phun? Remember, thanks to the Thai double standards, this question is never considered. Still, check off the box that says “forgiveness” as one more dimension of love that this series has covered in its run thus far.

Next week: School is back in session, the stage is getting set for the Battle of The Bands and the Fluttering of the Hearts, and more EarnPete. Also, what snacks did Noh bring back with him from Hua Hin?

    1. Thanks! I am now busier than ever with BL. I admin a Facebook page for USA BL fans (Are you in it?), record a podcast called The BL Clinic and now The BL Clinic has just opened a YouTube channel. On top of that, the USA BL Fans meet every two to three months, and guess who runs the online meet ups? ME! 🙂 Plus there is SO much BL to watch!!! hahaha!

Thanks for reading my blog posts! Hope you keep finding them enjoyable!

      1. I can’t remember about Facebook lol. I initially read something you’d written on there but it was about a year ago and I don’t have your FB info anymore. Ahh yes the BL Clinic. I remember J had added that to my Spotify to follow, but shortly afterwards I got YouTube’s premium membership and that came with YouTube Music and I started listening to music on there. I haven’t listened to any podcasts like I used to. Are you available through YouTube?

It’s okay to be busy bc of BL lol 😊. That’s a good kind of busy

  1. There isn’t an actual “h” in โอม. When people romanize and put the “h” in it’s often to show that there’s aspiration. I see it a lot with certain consonants… I’ll have to ask my Thai teacher about that. Because โ is a vowel obviously lol

    1. I think it could be because of that, but IDK. Kuda romanized it as OM. I see no reason why anyone needs to “aspirate” before the M. I don’t hear an aspiration of any kind. Sometimes, the reason people put letters in between vowels when they romanize is because its romanize for English pronunciation and consonants modify vowel sounds in English. For example, ล่อ is transliterated as LOR, but that’s because the O in LO sounds like the O in LOR. So I don’t know if the intention of the H is to do that, but if you think about it, don’t native speakers of English usually pronounce OHM and OM the same?

Anyway, thanks for reading my BLOG post! Good luck with your Thai! I think its a lot of fun! 🙂 The more I learn, the more I like it!

      1. Oh you’re right. Romanization always befuddles me. It would help if they had a universal one. But everyone can do their own. I struggle with the script but overall I think I struggle more with romanization.
I enjoy your blog greatly. I’m glad you put out your thoughts on episode 8. It makes me want to go back and rewatch the second season because I think I missed a lot
